Day 17: Gratitude Journaling Prompts You Can Use Everyday
By now, I’m sure you know how much I heart gratitude. From anxiety to depression, and everything in between, there's no issue gratitude can't help heal.
Gratitude doesn't come naturally for most people. It's a lot more natural for us to focus on what we don't have. Practicing gratitude is a conscious choice. There will always be things going wrong in our lives, but there will also always be things going right. Focusing on what is going right, counting our blessings, remembering the love of family and friends...that will change our attitude day by day, and eventually it will change your life.
I love a good gratitude list as much as the next person, but sometimes it's good to mix up our gratitude practice. If you're looking to start a gratitude journal (but don't know where to start), here are 15 prompts you can use again and again.
1. Write about a childhood memory that you are grateful for.
2. Name a piece of wisdom you have acquired over the years that you are thankful for.
3. List five places you are thankful for.
4. Name a part of your body you are thankful for. Write at least five sentences about why you are.
5. List three people you are thankful for today.
6. What problem have you overcome, and how are you grateful for that problem now that you are on the other side of it?
7. Name one thing you are naturally good at. Write about how that skill has served you over the years.
8. Think about the last time you laughed super hard. Describe the circumstances...how are you grateful for that laughter, the people you were with, that situation?
9. Reflect on a proud moment in your life. Who and what are you thankful for that contributed to that moment?
10. List five songs that bring you joy. Write about why each one does.
11. Name the two important dates coming up on your calendar. Why are these dates important? Whether they are happy or stressful, can you list a few reasons you are thankful for these dates?
12. Write about your home...wherever you live, whether you love it or want to leave it...write about how blessed you are to live where you do today.
13. List ten things that regularly bring a smile to your face.
14. Write about a gift you have recently received or an act of kindness someone has recently done for you.
15. Write about how you will intentionally practice gratitude each day, aside from journaling or a gratitude list. What will be challenging about this? How will your life be better as a result of practicing gratitude?
